Bingler Manfred & Schulthess Emil

Manfred Bingler was born in Constance in 1928 and died in 1987 in Küsnacht. After studying photography at the ‘Kunstgewerbeschule’ (School of Arts and Crafts) in Zurich from 1948 to 1953, Bingler worked as a photographer for Conzett & Huber and then for Swissair. From 1960 to 1963, he created outstanding posters for Swissair. In 1964, he founded his own studio for commercial photography. Many of his works were published in the magazines ‘DU’ and ‘Annabelle’ and won him national and international prizes in the 1960s and 1970s.

Emil Schulthess was born in Zurich in 1913. He trained as a graphic designer and took a photography course at the ‘Kunstgewerbeschule’ (School of Arts and Crafts) in Zurich. After 1941, he became art director of the magazine ‘Du’. From 1957 he worked as a freelance photographer and published books such as ‘Africa’ (1958/59) and ‘China’ (1966).
